Refrigerator Magnets ~ Poetry

This has been a fun little brain exercise for me.  I've had these refrigerator word magnets for years and just started to play with them again.  There is a limited supply - I can only choose from approximately 60 different words.  I thought it would be fun to start a series and post them.

A Little Micropoetry ~

MPP2014

Aphonia afflicted, I overcome -
Voice resonates finely
Articulated truths -
Silent, incendiary expression -
My written word.

The Perfect Storm

Here’s a poem written/inspired by the 4/9/2014 Writer's Digest word prompt “shelter”. It’s quite fitting as tonight has been a rough one with insomnia.

“THE PERFECT STORM”
My protection, my world –
to rely on others, to pay money
to others has become
the norm…and it’s getting old.
Peace of mind seems fleeting.
Ride the storm out –
especially when sunny days
mislead me with quirky mirages
only to segue into fitful sleep -
chronic, chaotic dreams
when night does fall.
The storm does end, and sometimes
ethereal debris left behind
has purposeful design –
fertilizes and offers renewal to
battered body and soul -
a powerful force to overcome, to survive.

Welcome to my Poetry Blog!

After a long pause, I decided to create a separate blog to focus solely on my poetry.  My Reflections and Renewal blog at www.marypettigrew.blogspot.com  is still active and I'll be re-vamping the content soon. I've entered much of my work under the Poetry Collections page here.  I'm looking forward to using this blog and sharing even more of my work.

Hope you enjoy!

BATTLE WOUNDS

No reprieve, once healed
agenda is to cut again -
becoming common, somewhat normal -
each cut, pain no longer
recognized.

Scars, wounds visible
others, critical...chronic -
never seen, nor felt to the touch -
pretending, hopeful of prayer, or magic...
fantasize, fantastical  in thought...
are the scars still there?

Scan deeper - take a picture
my skin, tissues vanish somewhat -
becoming transparent
allowing my wounds to illuminate
taking center stage in my priceless portrait.
